Are you searching for person on the other side of the country, a document, where a task is located in the user-interface, or what are the procedures for performing a task? No matter what you are looking for, you want to find it fast, and you want the results to be relevant to your search. Now, you could meander through some hierarchical tree or menu structure in hopes of finding what you are looking for; however, that manual task is not very efficient nor is it fast. Also, keep in mind that you may drill-down into a menu only to come to a dead-end. In other words, you know what you are looking for; you just don’t know where it is. That’s why you need a federated search engine. Intelligent search tools that rapidly filter mass quantities of divergent data, gather results into a certain theme (clustering), focus on relevant data, and retrieve records in a timely manner are highly valuable to the HR data forager. Not only that, a good search tool is essential to the success of human resource software, and, as a result essential to the success of companies.

Enterprise search tools play an important role in companies today as they struggle to distinguish themselves from the competition and to form lasting relationships with customers. Yes, search in software directly relates to lasting customer relationships. By way of comparison, think of the people you consider friends. What things do you like about them? They may be smart, easy to get along with, they are not critical but friendly, you may have something in common with them, or they simply just get (understand) YOU. Some of these things may make them your friend. All of these things in a person may make them a close friend for friend for life.

Now, let’s think about a search engine. What if it:

  •  is Intelligent (characterized by resourcefulness, quickness of calculations)

  • is Easy to use (Does not require much information from the user)

  • is Friendly (uses language that you understand and presents it in an accommodating manner),

  • Learns what YOU like (learned your tendencies and became aware of your history).

  • Deciphers Your Thinking (Knows what your query is targeting)

No doubt, it would be easy to develop an enduring relationship with the application associated with the Search engine. Yes, good Enterprise search tools play a central role in a company forming lasting relationships with customers.
